GARGANJUA have recently dropped their first single from the upcoming “A Voyage in Solitude” set for January.

Garganjua are a 4 piece doom band from the east midlands. Formed in 2013 Garganjua have quickly established themselves a reputation as a solid, heavy and reliable band on the live circuit.

Born out of 3 peoples love for all things tuned low and played slow, Garganjua started out as just something to do on a Thursday night but it quickly took on more of an identity when we started focusing on song writing and played our first gig.

In April 2014 Garganjua travelled to Wales to the legendary Foel Studios to record our first EP. Whilst recording, studio owner and former Hawkwind bass player, Dave Henderson sat in on one of our sessions and commented on how he though our sound would “FREAK PEOPLE OUT”.  Their debut EP, ‘Trip Wizard’, received positive reviews from all over the globe, getting radio air play in America and Australia which has help secure us a number of gigs at O2 Academy venues and bigger club shows supporting Pallbearer, X11 Boar, Bast, Greenhorn and Warlord UK to name a few. It was also released on limited edition cassette through UK doom label, Cosmic Tomb. They have now sold out.

Their debut EP can be streamed via our bandcamp:

The bands style has developed and changed significantly since the first release and we have now been compared to bands such as Yob, Pallbearer and Ahab.  Due to this musical progression and the diverse sound that the band are taking on, we decided the live show also needed to be bigger and more importantly, louder so we enlisted the help of a long time friend to join as a second guitarist.

2016 is looking to be the bands busiest yet with our debut album ‘A Voyage in Solitude’ set for a January release and a string of UK dates already in the bag (below).  The album was recorded at SkyHammer Studios with engineer Chris Fielding (Conan, Winterfylleth, Witchsorrow) and features 4 songs of epic melodic doom stretching 40 minutes plus.

‘A Voyage in Solitude’ will be released digitally through Black Bow Records and Physically through Hibernacula Records.

In a statement they said “It is vitally important that our region is represented to the larger international metal community for the health of our emerging artists”.

Amen to that!

Due to unforeseen circumstances the Liverpool promoter hosting the M2TM for the region has had to withdraw.  So if any promoters in the region are interested then please contact

Over the years we’ve seen some great bands from the region including Deified, Oceanis, Kryocell and many more … great region with a history of great bands so lets make this happen for 2016.

RFTK PROMOTIONS have taken up the mantle to find the best breaking bands in the Newcastle region for Bloodstock’s Metal 2 The Masses 2016.  Holding heats throughout the City and hosting the final at the fabulous THE CLUNY venue on Friday 17th June – this is a long overdue viit to the North East and promises to be a stormer.

Bands looking to enter need to get in touch with Kev at or contact the venue on 0191 230 4474 – dont delay as spaces will fill fast.

The Cluny is a 300 capacity venue in the heart of the Ouseburn valley, it deals with a diverse range of bands of many genres – everything from folk and jazz through to extreme metal (they’ve hosted the infamous Byker Grave festival) – an excellent live music venue.

RFTK Promotions formed in 2006 with the purpose of bringing bands to Newcastle that would not otherwise play (we’ve all been there “My favourite band is touring and they’re not playing here – this sucks”) well – we set out to do something about it – and, nearly 200 gigs later – I think we’ve made a good impression. Bands of all shapes and sizes from Sebastian Bach to small pub bands – and across many genres : Goth, Industrial, Glam, Classic bands, new up and coming bands.
